A beautiful 'nightmare'

'nightmare' dalam bahasa bisa diartikan 'mimpi buruk'. Sedangkan 'beautiful'? pasti artinya 'cantik'. Hmm, apa ada sebuah mimpi buruk yang sekaligus cantik? Sebenarnya saya bukan membahas tentang pengertian dari kata-kata itu tadi. Saya hanya ingin sharing tentang 1 album musik dari band Avenged Sevenfold (A7X), yang judulnya 'nightmare'. A7X memang hanya salah satu dari sekian banyak band yang saya kagumi musiknya, masih banyak yang lain, ex. Green day, Muse, Paramore, Coldplay, dan masih banyak lagi (asal musiknya berkualitas, saya pasti suka). Tapi akhir-akhir ini, saya lebih punya ikatan 'emosional' yang lebih kuat dengan A7X, terutama album mereka yang terbaru ini...

Seperti yang seluruh dunia tahu, band ini baru kehilangan drummer nya, salah satu drummer terbaik dunia, James 'The Rev' Sullivan, yang meninggal 28 Desember 2009 lalu. Album ini menurut saya, bisa jadi adalah bentuk 'tribute' secara tidak resmi terhadap 'The Rev'. Selain di cover nya jelas terpampang foREVer (for rev forever)...di album ini sangat jelas bagaimana ke 4 personel A7X begitu kehilangan Rev. Tema album ini sangat kental dengan kematian, tragedi, dan rasa sakit kehilangan seseorang yang dicintai dari tragedi itu. Selain musiknya memang masih dalam jalur A7X (baca: keren), masalah tema  itu tadi yang mungkin membuat saya 'menyatu' dengan album ini. Kenapa? ya mungkin tulisan saya sebelum ini sudah sangat menggambarkan alasannya dan tidak perlu saya jelaskan lagi disini. Intinya saya merasakan apa yang dirasakan M.Shadow, Syn, Zacky, & Johnny saat mereka kehilangan sahabat dekatnya secara mendadak. 

Sekarang masuk ke lagu-lagu album 'nightmare' ini. Temanya hampir semua sama, dan memang 'nightmare' kata yang paling pas menggambarkan tema-tema di album A7X ini. Berikut track-track yang ada di album ini:

Dilihat dari judul lagunya saja, bisa disimpulkan tentang apa A7X bercerita. Album ini sangat kelam secara tema, tapi 'manis' dalam musik. Tentu manis dalam ukuran musik A7X, jangan dibandingkan dengan 'manis' nya band-band melayu yang bertebaran di Indonesia. Semua lagu di album ini berkualitas, tapi untuk sekarang saya sedang menikmati 'romansa' dengan 4 lagu yang saya cetak tebal. Lagu-lagu ini mempunyai nilai lebih di hati saya, karena berbagai alasan, bisa dari tema, musik, ataupun cerita di balik lagu itu. Saya coba ulas satu per satu lagu yang saya sebutkan tadi.

notes: Lagu ini ditulis oleh Synyster Gates, sang gitaris, untuk almarhum 'The Rev'. Syn sendiri adalah teman Rev sejak masa anak-anak, dan mereka tinggal bertetangga. Lagu ini menggambarkan dengan jelas betapa Syn kehilangan Jimmy, panggilan lain The Rev, dan makna lagu ini sangat dalam, lirik nya sangat kuat, dan melody yang mendukung suasana kehilangan di lagu ini. Lagi-lagi saya tidak perlu menjelaskan bagaimana hati saya sangat terhubung dengan lagu ini.

Victim 
notes: Lagu ini saya suka karena melody nya sangat catchy dan natural...selain itu tentu liriknya, yang lagi-lagi kelam. 'Victim' menceritakan tentang rasa kehilangan terhadap seseorang yang menjadi 'victim' atau 'korban' dalam bahasa. Korban disini bisa berarti luas, yang jelas tetap pada tema 'lost in death' pastinya. Dalam liriknya menjelaskan kadang sesuatu yang pahit sulit dipercaya dan diterima. Yap, memang benar demikian adanya...

notes: Lagu ini punya cerita yang sangat menarik dibalik penciptaan nya. Lagu ini diciptakan The Rev 3 hari sebelum kematiannya. Dan isinya? wow! lagu ini layaknya sebuah surat wasiat dari seseorang yang tahu ia akan meninggal. Disitu terdapat 'pesan terakhir' dari The Rev kepada orang-orang yang ia cintai. Untuk musiknya sendiri, mungkin ini salah satu lagu A7X yang paling simpel karena sama sekali tidak ada sound gitar! hanya ada lantunan piano yang sangat dalam.......hmmm....merinding tiap kali lagu ini diputar.

notes: Salah satu tipikal lagu avenged sevenfold, epic dan durasi yang sangat panjang, bahkan lebih dari 10 menit. Musiknya benar-benar bintang lima, dan lagu ini menceritakan 'keluhan' secara halus bahwa kita manusia hidup hanya untuk mati di kemudian hari.Tentu ini tidak bermakna bahwa A7X menantang takdir alami manusia, lagi-lagi ini hanya 'curahan' mereka yang sangat kehilangan The Rev.

itu tadi sedikit sharing saya tentang album nightmare dan lagu favorit saya di album ini...terlalu banyak hubungan emosional saya dengan album ini.....ya, jangan tanya lagi kenapa.
Mungkin Avenged Sevenfold mendedikasikan album ini dengan 'forREVer' (forever REV)....
saya pun mendedikasikan album ini untuk R, tapi untuk nama yang berbeda........
